Marlon Reid - 1969 Type 141 / 1966 Type 143

Edmonton, Alberta

Marlon had the body work on the '69 done in Regina.  Here's a few pictures on the progress.

On the other hand, Marlon decided to tackle the '66 himself.  What was supposed to be a quick refresh turned into a big job, but don't they all?  The '66 had a replacement front end grafted on at some time in it's life. The splice was at the rockers and window posts. As such, the car didn't have the proper one year only '66 dash. In turn, the donor piece used had had it's front end replaced too, so the car is actually 3 bodies. Marlon ended up redoing the dash and trunk to make it a proper '66 through and through.

See the build here.

Painted at last!

In Marlon's own words...

Here's a rough short version of our Ghia chronology:

August 1998 - Buy the 1969 Convertible
August 1998-Jan 1999 - Car is stored in a warehouse at my brother's
work. I started collecting parts and stripped down the parts car of any
useful parts.
Jan 1999 - bring car out to our acreage we had just moved into.
1999-2001 - start stripping car wholesale. Every part is removed, tagged
and bagged. Body is removed from pan. Also spent that time collecting
needed parts.
2001-Aug 2004 - start working away from home (Edmonton) in Fort
McMurray. Also start renovating house. 3 years go by with no work
whatsoever done on the 1969.
August 2004- buy 1966 Coupe from California. Picked up in Seattle and
drove to Edmonton. Ran great the whole time. It is totally free of rust,
but has old (repaired, but poorly) damage to the nose. Also numerous
parking lot dings, faded paint and bad rubber seals. Still looked pretty
sharp. The intention was to have an easier resto to have and drive while
I worked on the convertible.
Sept 2005- made the decision to resto the 66 myself, but pay the pros to
do the 69, thus we took it to the bodyshop we trusted in Regina. It's
almost done now.
The '66 is also almost ready for paint. I ended up doing better work to
it than intended.

Here's some updated pictures from the 2011 BBQ, looking good!
